The recently formed Jacob de Cordova Society is an outgrowth of an idea that was born in 1978, when a group of local history enthusiasts came together to discuss the need for a dedication to preserve and share the history of our community. Thanks to their vision and hard work, Jacob de Cordova Society was officially founded in December 2023.
"Waco, a City to Believe in"
The Vision for our Waco 175th anniversary celebration is to reach out to the local cultural and historical organizations to help us pay tribute to one of the key figures in its history, Jacob de Cordova, We will meet with and work with youth to use new filmmaking and story telling techniques to preserve and exclaim the innovative contributions de Cordova made while we simultaneously are investing in Waco's future. To be able to extend real opportunities to some young students all over Waco to work on this film and for anyone to gain new skills in animation, digital arts, film-making and AI, we need the support of the community. To further build community in how stories are told and locals ongoing work to share Waco history, we are running a Scavenger Hunt and making a 200 year time capsule for the community.
The mission of the JCS is to be a catalyst during Waco's 175th anniversary year to organize those Wacoans, near and far, to learn about and to proudly share Waco's rich cultural historical record with the world. We envision a locally inspired global community that bridges generations and uses the latest technologies to tell Waco's story in a way that attracts visitors and new businesses to Waco...A City to Believe In.
